Hispano Suiza details HSDD software behind 820kW Carmen Sagrera

Hispano Suiza has explained the control software that keeps the Carmen Sagrera’s 820kW and 1,160Nm in check without constantly reminding its driver that computers are involved.

The electric hypercar is not a new model. Hispano Suiza unveiled it in June 2024.

Its August 2026 press release instead details Hispano Suiza Driver Dynamics, or HSDD, the company’s own software suite for traction, stability, torque distribution, regenerative braking and drive-mode control.

HSDD receives information from more than 100 sensors spread across the car.

Hispano Suiza says the electronic architecture can process more than 200 million instructions per second, using inputs such as steering angle and speed, accelerator position, wheel speeds, brake pressure, chassis yaw, damper movement, three-axis acceleration and battery condition.

Ambient temperature, air pressure and altitude are also taken into account.

Analogue, digital and CAN-bus signals are converted into values for pressure, temperature, position, speed, acceleration, power and torque before the control software responds.

Three functions handle much of the work. The Grip Enhancement System manages traction, while Active Yaw Modulation controls the car’s movement around its vertical axis.

An Electronic Torque Stabiliser can apply negative torque independently to either rear wheel during energy regeneration, helping settle the car while feeding energy back into the battery.

The software also watches motor and battery temperatures. It can then vary power delivery, traction-control intervention and regeneration according to the selected driving mode and what the sensors detect.

Former Formula 1 driver Luis Pérez-Sala led the calibration programme, which included simulation, track running and public-road testing.

The brief was to leave the driver room to work with the car before the electronics step in progressively, rather than smothering every hint of wheel slip.

Hispano Suiza chief technical officer Juan Fernández said HSDD was developed to support the person behind the wheel rather than take over, intervening only when required.

The Carmen Sagrera uses four 205kW electric motors connected to the rear axle, for a combined 820kW — equivalent to 1,115PS — and 1,160Nm. Hispano Suiza quotes 0-100kph in 2.6 seconds.

Its 103kWh battery carries an official range claim of up to 480km (WLTP).
