Geely has unveiled a 16-in-1 electric-drive system that combines core propulsion hardware and vehicle-control software in a 75kg package.
The 800V system will make its production debut in the Geely Galaxy TT electric saloon.
Developed with support from Geely ecosystem partner InfiMotion, it is intended to reduce component count, shorten wiring, free up cabin space and simplify future electric vehicle platform installation.
China Securities Journal reported that the unit combines 12 hardware elements, including the electric motor, controller and reduction gear, with four software functions. These cover energy management, charging management, vehicle-motion control and system-health monitoring.
Geely said the integrated layout removes more than 180 parts compared with less consolidated systems. The assembly is under 325mm tall and weighs at least 15% less than mainstream competing units, according to the Chinese report.
Its claimed China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle comprehensive efficiency is 93.8%. This is a whole-system figure, rather than a peak efficiency claim for the motor alone.
A Galaxy TT fitted with the drive recorded energy consumption of 8.20kWh/100km during a run around Qinghai Lake. Guinness World Records recognised it for the lowest energy consumption while circumnavigating the lake in a production battery-electric saloon, Geely said.
The system uses silicon-carbide power modules, Umini-Pin flat-wire technology and 0.2mm silicon-steel laminations. Its energy-management software adjusts operation for winter conditions, motorway driving and urban use.
In dual-motor all-wheel-drive form, the setup produces a combined 425kW and is claimed to take the Galaxy TT from zero to 100kph in 3.8 seconds. Geely quotes a torque-response time as low as two milliseconds.
Cooling is handled by a 54-channel directional system that can reduce the motor’s maximum temperature by up to 15 degrees Celsius. Active lubrication is also used for the shafts and gears to help control temperatures during sustained high-load driving.
Geely said the drive was developed against a five-million-kilometre durability target, with testing conducted at component, assembly and vehicle levels.
The company also used two Galaxy TT cars for a wet-surface drifting exercise covering more than 46km. Guinness recognised the run as the longest continuous twin-vehicle drift on a wet surface by electric vehicles.
InfiMotion operates electric-drive manufacturing facilities in Wuxi, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Quzhou and Jiaxing.
China Securities Journal said their combined annual capacity stands at three million units, covering 400V to 900V systems used across Geely, Zeekr, Lynk & Co and Volvo models.
