BYD Sime Motors has launched its manufacturer-backed pre-owned electric vehicle programme in Malaysia, with the first BYD Certified outlet opening at Sime Darby Auto Selection Glenmarie, Shah Alam.

The company said the Glenmarie facility is the first official BYD Certified showroom in the Asia-Pacific region. It handles vehicle purchases, certification checks, trade-ins, financing, warranty support and aftersales services.

Manufacturer-backed used-car divisions are common among established carmakers, helping to support resale values by giving buyers greater confidence in second-hand vehicles.

Cars offered through the programme must pass a 170-point inspection. They must also have no record of major accidents, flood or fire damage, while any sign of odometer tampering will rule out certification.
Refurbishment work must use genuine BYD parts and follow the carmaker’s approved repair standards.

Age and mileage limits also apply. A one-year-old vehicle can have no more than 30,000km on its odometer.

The limit rises to 60,000km for a two-year-old car, 90,000km at three years and 100,000km at four years. Vehicles more than four years old do not qualify.

Battery condition forms part of the assessment. BYD Sime Motors said buyers will receive verified battery health and vehicle history records, although the launch announcement did not state a minimum battery state-of-health requirement.

The programme includes a five-day buy-back pledge. BYD Sime Motors will repurchase a vehicle at its original selling price if previously undisclosed structural, flood or fire damage is found within five days of delivery.

Warranty and servicing support will be available through BYD’s authorised sales, service and spare parts network nationwide. Existing BYD owners can also use the programme to trade in their vehicles when moving to another model.

BYD Certified completed its first customer delivery during the launch, handing over a pre-owned BYD Atto 3.

BYD Malaysia managing director Jacob Ma said the programme was intended to make pre-owned EVs accessible to more buyers as demand for used vehicles with manufacturer support grows.

BYD Sime Motors managing director Adeline Lew said the inspection, vehicle-history and battery-checking processes were intended to give buyers clearer information about a car before purchase.

Financing rates start from 2.03%, subject to terms and conditions. The company has not disclosed the loan tenure, participating financial institutions or calculations behind the advertised rate.

Selected BYD Certified vehicles are now available at Sime Darby Auto Selection Glenmarie, subject to stock. A showroom event will be held there from July 24 to 26.
