BYD has turned the Dolphin electric hatchback into a compact commercial vehicle for the UK, giving small fleets a van-shaped option without moving into a larger electric light commercial vehicle.

The new BYD Dolphin Cargo e-Van is converted in the UK. The rear seats are permanently removed, a full metal bulkhead is fitted behind the front seats, and the rear section becomes a flat load area.

Load volume is rated at 1,093 litres, including a 47-litre underfloor compartment. The cargo bay measures up to 1,250 mm long, 1,160 mm wide and 710 mm high, with 1,018 mm between the wheel arches.

Overall length stays at 4,290 mm, so this is still a small city-friendly vehicle rather than a full-size van.

Power comes from a 150 kW (204 PS) electric motor and a 60.4 kWh BYD Blade Battery using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.

BYD quotes up to 558 km WLTP in city use and 426 km WLTP on the combined cycle. An optional 113kph speed limiter is also available for fleet users.

The Dolphin Cargo e-Van is based on the Dolphin Comfort trim, so it gets equipment that many basic vans do without.

Standard kit includes vehicle-to-load (V2L), a heat pump, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 360-degree camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

BYD said it can also arrange business-specific additions such as reversing alarms, amber warning beacons, livery and custom storage.

UK order books are open now through participating BYD retailers. Prices start from £36,305 (RM194,000) including VAT.
