XPeng GX flagship SUV teased for Malaysia after China debut

XPeng has unveiled the GX, a new six-seat flagship SUV now open for pre-sales in China from 399,800 yuan (RM232,000).

It is the brand’s costliest model so far and shows where XPeng wants to go next.

The GX is huge, measuring in at 5,265mm long, 1,999mm wide and 1,800mm tall, with a 3,115mm wheelbase, so it sits firmly in full-size SUV territory.

Inside, the layout is a 2+2+2 six-seater. Buyers get second-row zero-gravity seats, separate headrests for the third row, a rear entertainment screen mounted overhead and a split tailgate.

The GX uses XPeng’s integrated motion control system along with brake-by-wire, front steer-by-wire and rear-wheel steering. Big SUVs can feel awkward and heavy. XPeng seems to be trying to make the GX easier to place and easier to drive than its size would suggest.

In China, buyers can choose between BEV and EREV versions. The BEV uses an 800-volt silicon-carbide platform, supports 5C charging and is claimed to deliver up to 750km on the CLTC cycle.

The EREV pairs a 63.3kWh battery with a claimed 430km electric range and more than 1,585km of combined range on the same test cycle. All-wheel drive is standard throughout the range.

Malaysia is already in the picture., with the GX due to launch here by the middle of this year. XPeng is represented by Bermaz Xpeng Sdn Bhd.  XPeng’s move last year to establish a direct Malaysia operation appears to sharpen the brand’s local control rather than signal an immediate split from Bermaz, which remains the distributor for now.

XPeng has also picked Malaysia as part of its Southeast Asian expansion, while local assembly plans for other XPeng models are already progressing here.

There is still no full Malaysian launch announcement yet. Even so, with the brand’s local principal already set up under country head Adrian Loh, the GX looks set for a Malaysian rollout after its China debut.
