Rivian has finally laid out the prices, trims and rollout timing for the R2, the smaller electric SUV that will be central to its next phase in the US.
In a March 2026 update, the company gave a firmer look at what buyers can expect and when each version is due to arrive.
The first one out is the R2 Performance in spring 2026, priced from US$57,990 (RM229,000). It gets dual-motor all-wheel drive, up to 656hp, and a claimed 0-60mph time of 3.6 seconds.
Next comes the R2 Premium in late 2026. That one also uses a dual-motor AWD setup, starts at US$53,990, makes 450hp and is expected to deliver up to 531km of EPA-estimated range.
The more affordable version comes later. Rivian said the single-motor rear-wheel-drive R2 Standard Long Range will arrive in the first half of 2027 from US$48,490 (RM191,000), with 350hp and up to 555km of range. A cheaper Standard variant, priced at around US$45,000 (RM178,000), is due in late 2027.
The lower-priced versions are likely to be the real volume cars.
Rivian is also trying to show that the R2 is not just a trimmed-down R1. It said the SUV is nearly 907kg lighter, rides on a shorter wheelbase and still offers 24cm of ground clearance.
Enclosed storage is quoted at 90.1 cubic feet, with help from fold-flat rear seats, dual gloveboxes and the company’s drop-down rear glass.
Software and assisted-driving hardware are a big part of the car’s appeal as well. Rivian said the R2 gets 200 sparse TOPS of edge AI compute, new “Haptic Halo Wheels” controls on the steering wheel, and hardware for its Autonomy+ L2+ hands-free system across 5.6 million kilometres of roads in the US and Canada.
Reservations are open now. Rivian also said these prices and specs apply to the US market only.
