Omoway Omo X heads for market with self-balancing system

Chinese electric two-wheeler start-up Omoway said its Omo X has entered mass production, with pre-orders due to open in Indonesia in late April and sales set to follow in late May.

The announcement came at the company’s 2026 Global Technology Launch at Jewel Changi Airport’s Canopy Park in Singapore, where Omoway put the focus on the bike’s self-balancing system.

Omoway is calling the Omo X the world’s first mass-produced self-balancing motorcycle, describing it as a “MotoRobot” rather than a conventional bike.

The company said the system combines gyroscope-based stabilisation, vision sensing and AI control of steering, braking and motor functions to help the bike stay balanced and respond to hazards.

Omoway said the idea is to make motorcycles less daunting to use, especially at low speed or on slippery roads.

That is a fair problem to go after, particularly in markets such as Indonesia, where two-wheelers are part of everyday transport. The company said it has already built a distributor network across key Indonesian regions including Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Bali.

Even so, Omoway has not yet publicly set out full homologation details, pricing or independent safety validation that would let outsiders judge how ready the package really is.

Calling it “mass production” may also be a little premature when sales have yet to begin and pre-orders are only about to open in one market.

The Omo X is certainly interesting. But the harder part comes later, when riders in Indonesia start using it in everyday conditions and we see whether the self-balancing system is genuinely useful on the road, not just clever at a launch event.
