Polestar teams up with Dolby for a festive playlist that comes with a twist: a specially remastered version of “Silent Night” rebuilt for Dolby Atmos.
It is less “background carol” and more “choir in your lap”, and it doubles as an ideal demo of what the Swedish electric performance brand wants its flagship SUV to do when the road goes quiet.
The track is created specifically for Atmos, which means the harmonies and instruments are treated as elements in a three-dimensional space rather than a flat left-right stereo mix.
In the Polestar 3, that matters because it is the brand’s first SUV and, Polestar says, the world’s first vehicle to offer an in-car Bowers & Wilkins sound system with integrated Dolby Atmos.
That optional system is not shy. It uses 25 speakers positioned around the cabin, pairs Bowers & Wilkins’ Continuu cone technology with a 1,610-watt output, and adds 3D surround sound, Dolby Atmos support and active road-noise cancellation.
Polestar UK managing director Matt Galvin said the collaboration “celebrates the quiet, calm nature of electric driving” while showing the “incredible level of detail” the system can deliver.
Dolby’s Jane Gillard said Atmos can place vocals and instruments around the cabin, and that the near-silent environment of an EV helps achieve the effect.
Bowers & Wilkins partnerships marketing director Tom Henderson called the Atmos integration a milestone, arguing the EV cabin is ideal for high-performance audio.
