BYD says it has produced its 15 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV), a landmark it links to its broader push to widen adoption of battery-electric cars and its DM plug-in hybrid technology.
The company marked the moment at its Jinan factory in China, which began mass manufacturing three years ago.
The 15 millionth unit was also the 15,000th example of the Denza N8L, a six-seat SUV from BYD’s premium Denza brand.
BYD said the N8L sits on the same e3 (“e-cube”) platform family as the Denza Z9GT, which is earmarked to spearhead Denza’s European entry in 2026.
BYD traces its NEV story back to the F3DM, which it described as the world’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid, launched in 2008. It took the group 13 years to build its first million NEVs.
By contrast, BYD said it moved from 10 million to 15 million in just 13 months.
The previous marker came on Oct 9, 2025, when BYD’s 14 millionth NEV rolled off the line at its Brazil plant, a Song Pro hybrid SUV.
For 2025, BYD reports total production of 4.182 million vehicles from January to November, up 11.3% year on year.
Overseas sales in the same period reached 917,000 units, exceeding its full-year 2024 international total, with the brand present in more than 110 countries and regions.
BYD said it spent 43.75 billion yuan (RM25bil) on R&D in the first three quarters of 2025, taking cumulative investment past 220 billion yuan (RM127bil).
