Mercedes has named Volkswagen’s outgoing chief strategist Stefan Weckbach as the next CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, effective July 1, 2026.
He will also becomes Head of the Top End Vehicle Group overseeing AMG, Mercedes-Maybach and the G-Class line-up.
Weckbach, a long-time Porsche executive, was brought to Wolfsburg in 2023 to run Group Strategy, Group Product Strategy and the General Secretariat, and previously turned Porsche’s Mission E concept into the Taycan production EV.
He will replace Michael Schiebe, who has joined the Mercedes-Benz Group board and will steer AMG on an interim basis until the handover.
“Stefan Weckbach … combines deep product knowledge with strong strategic capabilities and brings exceptionally broad experience in developing and shaping the performance and luxury segments,” said Mercedes-Benz chief technology officer Jörg Burzer, calling him the ideal choice to drive the brand’s top-end portfolio through its next phase of electrification and performance.
