Mercedes-Benz Malaysia today announced an upgrade package for its locally assembled S 580 e plug-in hybrid, adding DC charging, rear-axle steering and comfort features.
The flagship sedan is priced at RM738,888 (on-the-road without insurance) for Peninsular Malaysia and includes an eight-year/160,000 km high-voltage battery warranty.
The price is a RM20,000 increase from the previous one to pay for the extra goodies.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia said the specification changes reflected evolving market conditions and customer expectations.
The revised S 580 e now supports DC fast charging at up to 60kW (the previous one didn’t), cutting typical stop times: a 10% to 80% charge is claimed to take about 20 minutes.
The update targets daily usability for owners who rely on public charging or need a rapid top-up between trips.
Agility gains come from rear-axle steering of up to 4.5 degrees, which reduces the turning circle at low speeds and enhances high-speed stability. The car also adopts 20-inch (508 mm) 10-twin-spoke forged wheels, underscoring its positioning as the brand’s technology-led luxo-saloon.
Inside, the S-Class receives a visual refresh with a centre console finished in black dotted lines with a crystal-look effect.
Front seats are now climatised, offering three-stage ventilation and heating; integrated fans in the cushions and backrests regulate temperature to suit individual preferences on longer journeys or in Malaysia’s hot, humid conditions.
Cabin air quality is addressed by Energizing Air Control. Sensors monitor nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and PM2.5 particulates, displaying live readings via MBUX.
When external levels reach defined thresholds, the system automatically switches between fresh-air and recirculation modes to maintain in-cabin conditions. An interior filter with antibacterial properties is fitted to reduce inhalable harmful substances and certain viruses.
The company positioned the enhancements as a continuation of the S-Class brief: to blend advanced technology with refinement and long-distance comfort.
Beyond feature additions, Mercedes-Benz cited its established development regime for the nameplate, including endurance and durability testing over varied road conditions to preserve low NVH and reliability.
Production remains at Mercedes-Benz’s Pekan plant, which is part of the marque’s global manufacturing network. Locally assembling the S 580 e allows the brand to tailor specifications for Malaysia while sustaining supply and aftersales support for its flagship hybrid.
