BYD Sime Motors has confirmed plans to set up an assembly plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak, as part of a three-pronged push to deepen its footprint in Malaysia.
The facility will cover 600,000 square metres with vehicle production targeted to begin in 2026. BYD said the investment is intended to make electric mobility more accessible and competitive for Malaysian buyers by strengthening local availability and supporting the broader EV ecosystem through assembly and talent development.
BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division general manager Liu Xueliang said Malaysia is a key market for the brand in Southeast Asia and the CKD plan marks a new chapter alongside today’s product announcement.
The second pillar is the introduction of the refreshed BYD Seal, available in Premium and Performance variants.
The update focuses on performance, comfort and technology, building on last year’s model.
The Performance variant claims 0–100kph in 3.8 seconds and adds the DiSus-C Intelligent Damping Body Control System for sharper handling. The Premium variant targets up to 650km NEDC range and adopts Frequency Selective Damping shock absorbers for a balance of comfort and control.
Both variants gain feature and design enhancements, including an electric sunshade for the panoramic roof, BYD Digital Key (NFC) and Bluetooth keyless access, a sunglass holder and newly designed 19-inch alloys; the Performance adds red brake calipers.
Exterior colours are Aurora White, Atlantis Grey, Cosmos Black and a new Shark Grey. Pricing starts at RM171,800 for the Premium and RM191,800 for the Performance.
To support early demand, the first 300 customers will receive a launch package valued at up to RM10,888, comprising a free wall charger, service package and a special rebate.
Rounding out the announcements, BYD Sime Motors and Wing Hin Ventures officially opened the BYD Balakong 3S Centre, which the companies say is the largest BYD 3S facility in Malaysia.
The three-level site features two floors of showroom space, 10 service bays, dedicated office areas and a substantial after-sales zone, delivering a full sales, service and spare parts experience.
With this opening, BYD Sime Motors’ network now totals 36 outlets nationwide. Managing director for Southeast Asia Jeffrey Gan said the expanded network, together with the CKD plan and the updated Seal, signal the brand’s drive to maintain its position as Malaysia’s leading BEV marque.
Bookings for the new Seal are open at BYD outlets nationwide.
