Jetour Auto Malaysia has started local assembly of its best-selling SUV models, the Dashing and VT9, at Berjaya Assembly Sdn Bhd’s (B-Assembly) Tampoi facility in Johor Baru.

The move signifies a major advance in Jetour’s localisation drive and underlines the brand’s long-term resolve to strengthen its footprint in the Malaysian automotive sector.

The assembly operations are housed within B-Assembly’s existing 640,000 sq ft centre, supported by a dedicated team of over 100 employees.

The Dashing and VT9 offered in Malaysia are internal combustion-engine (ICE) models. Both models use the same 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine sourced from Chery Omoda 5 (Jetour being a Chery sub-brand).

Both models produce 154hp and 230Nm of torque. They are paired with a six-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.

It is known that Jetour plans to introduce at least five forthcoming SUVs — including the T1 and T2 with both ICE and plug-in hybrid powertrains — alongside planned battery electric and hybrid variants, though exact launch dates remain unconfirmed.

By using Malaysia as a manufacturing and distribution hub for the Asean region, Jetour aligns with national ambitions to boost local content, generate skilled jobs and deepen integration with domestic suppliers.

“Reaching this milestone demonstrates our unwavering confidence in Malaysia as a pivotal market,” said Jetour International vice president Wen Qiangkang.

“Assembling the Dashing and VT9 locally not only elevates production capabilities but also represents a substantial investment in talent, innovation and the future of regional mobility.”

Jetour Malaysia chief executive officer Fu Yong said full-scale production would enable the delivery of high-quality vehicles customised for Malaysian customers.

“Our collaboration with B-Assembly establishes a robust platform for broader expansion across Asean,” he said.

Since launching its first model line in Malaysia earlier in 2025, Jetour has grown to more than 20 outlets nationwide.

The Tampoi plant has already rolled out over 1,000 locally assembled units, with deliveries of the Dashing beginning in June and VT9 shipments following soon after.

The Dashing targets urban drivers with its fastback-inspired styling and connected features, while the VT9 caters to families and long-distance travellers with a seven-seat cabin and smart convenience technology.

B-Assembly, a wholly owned subsidiary of Berjaya Assets Bhd, contributed Industry 4.0-ready systems to the venture, reflecting both parties’ dedication to high manufacturing standards, operational efficiency and sustainable mobility solutions.

Looking ahead, Jetour plans to invest around RM1.4bil in Malaysia to broaden its local assembly portfolio and ramp up exports to other Asean countries.

The company intends to expand its range of Malaysia-assembled models as part of its strategy to accelerate regional market penetration.
