Omoway, a Chinese e-motorcycle startup founded by former Xpeng Motors executives, is stepping up its localisation efforts in Indonesia following its June 20 debut.
The company plans to start mass production of its first model in 2026, backed by a full sales and service network across the archipelago.
Omoway Indonesia general manager Yulong Chen said Indonesia is both the firm’s “global launchpad” and its anchor for future growth. Early talks with several local dealer groups have paved the way for a nationwide distribution and after-sales setup when the 2026 model arrives.
To support the local industry, Omoway is preparing to set up production and assembly facilities in Indonesia. This would create jobs, build technical skills and forge a reliable supply chain with Indonesian partners, it said.
The prototype Omo X scooter has drawn praise for its Halo smart system, which includes self-balancing technology and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).
Engineers are fine-tuning these features for Jakarta’s slow-moving traffic and frequent rain, aiming to ease rider fatigue.
One-touch parking and summon functions are also under refinement to boost everyday convenience.
Omoway said safety is a priority. Omoway’s Collision Assist Braking (CAB) system is the industry’s first of its kind, designed to improve active safety in busy urban settings. The technical team is carrying out extensive tests to ensure the motorcycle performs reliably on Indonesia’s varied roads and in changing weather.
Founder Todd He said the shift from petrol-powered bikes to smart electric models would help cut urban pollution. “We want to drive intelligence and sustainability worldwide,” he said. The company also plans community initiatives to promote safer, more responsible riding.
Omoway is expanding its Indonesian workforce, hiring sales and marketing staff and also technical and quality-control teams.
