Sapura Industrial Berhad (SIB) and China’s Zhejiang Zhongze Precision Technology Co. Ltd (ZZ Tech) have signed a joint venture deal to produce high-precision storage battery casings for the electric-vehicle (EV) market.
The newly formed entity will tap SIB’s four decades of expertise in automotive component production alongside ZZ Tech’s precision-engineering capabilities and established global customer network.
Under the agreement, SIB will diversify beyond its traditional automotive supply role into the lithium-battery ecosystem.
Production will start by late 2025 at SIB’s Bangi facility, with an initial annual capacity of 1 million casings and plans to scale up in response to regional demand.
The joint venture marks SIB’s first foray into battery component production and its entry into the global export market.
It is expected to bolster regional supply chains for EVs and stationary energy-storage systems, meeting rising demand in South-East Asia and the world.
Both partners are expected to leverage shared R&D resources to develop new casing designs that enhance safety, reduce weight and improve thermal management.
