Big changes are apparently brewing in Hyundai’s operations in Malaysia.

Hyundai Motor Company is set to revamp its Malaysian presence by moving away from its long-established joint venture with Sime Darby.

Recent indications point to Hyundai taking over distribution duties previously handled by Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM), which has for years operated 30 independently run sales and service outlets across the country.

A report from tech news portal SoyaCincau noted that Hyundai’s official Malaysian website has been relocated to a new address on Sime Motors’ domain.

The homepage now features a prominent banner announcing “Hyundai Motor Malaysia arrives soon” alongside an invitation for prospective dealers to express their interest — suggesting Hyundai plans to roll out its own dealer network.

Further evidence comes from Hyundai’s global site, which now identifies “Hyundai Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd” as the authorised distributor in Malaysia, supplanting HSDM.

This newly named entity is registered at Menara Affin in TRX Kuala Lumpur, whereas HSDM had operated out of Glenmarie until its 2019 relocation.

Should Hyundai assume direct distribution, Sime Darby would transition to a dealership role within the new framework, retaining involvement as one of the brand’s principal retail partners.
