Chinese automaker JAC today launched the T9 pickup truck in Malaysia, marking the debut of the country’s first electric pickup.

The T9 is available in two variants – the fully electric T9 BEV and a diesel-powered version.

The T9 BEV is priced at RM199,888 on-the-road without insurance and comes with a six-year or 200,000 km battery warranty.

The T9 Diesel is going for RM119,888 and is backed by an eight-year, unlimited mileage engine warranty for the first owner, subject to the applicable service policy. Both versions are offered at introductory prices valid until the end of 2025.

Powered by an 88kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from CATL, the T9 BEV delivers 220 kW and 516Nm of torque via a dual-motor setup, with a top speed of 140kph. It has an estimated WLTP range of 340km on a full charge.

The range, to be honest, is unimpressive when other electric pickups are promising over 400km and more..

The vehicle supports DC fast charging at 88kW, enabling a 15% to 80% charge in 45 minutes, while AC charging takes around 8 hours and 30 minutes.

The T9 Diesel is equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, generating 125 kW and 410Nm of torque between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. It is paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the rear wheels.

JAC entered the Malaysian market in October 2024, with the T9 initially planned for a January 2024 launch before being delayed until now.

The diesel variant holds a five-star Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) safety rating under the latest criteria, making it the only pickup in Malaysia to achieve this standard. Meanwhile, the T9 BEV is the country’s first all-electric 4×4 pickup truck.

Evolvelectric Motors CEO Lau Yit Mun said the T9 is a versatile vehicle suitable for various needs, from business use to family transportation.

He highlighted features such as 64-colour ambient lighting, a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360° high-definition camera, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

The T9 will be showcased at 1Utama from March 6-9.

To promote the launch, Evolvelectric Motors is running a test drive contest until May 31, offering a chance to win a four-day, three-night trip to Perth for a family of four, including a JAC T9 rental and hotel stay.

Further details are on the Evolvelectric Motors facebook page.
