Volvo has announced the arrival of a new version of the EX30 built for offroad adventures.

The EX30 Cross Country was unveiled today as part of a fireside chat including outdoors equipment brand Fjällräven at a secluded winter cabin in the north of Sweden.

The EX30 Cross Country builds on the successful formula of the original model, with modifications aimed at tackling rough terrain and severe winter conditions.

Volvo CEO Jim Rowan said the new model reflected over 25 years of expertise in producing Cross Country vehicles built to withstand harsh climates while delivering a full range of performance and safety.

The fully electric EX30 Cross Country is engineered to appeal to both urban commuters and outdoor enthusiasts.

It offers a range of up to 427km.

Fast-charging capabilities allow the battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 26 minutes.

Some of the key upgrades to enable it to go off the beaten tracks include a raised ground clearance, larger wheels with an optional 18-inch all-terrain tyre, and standard all-wheel drive, ensuring the car handles both urban roads and rugged countryside with ease.

The exterior design features a dark-coloured front shield and boot lid, accented with artwork inspired by the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden.

Chunky front and rear skidplates, along with extended wheelarches, reinforce the vehicle’s robust character. Inside, the cabin is highly functional with innovative storage solutions.

Doors house large compartments, a central storage tunnel doubles as a cupholder or storage bin, and a removable, washable storage box serves rear passengers.

A “Will it fit?” guide on the boot lid assists owners with practical loading decisions.

Standard technology includes built-in Google applications, notably Google Maps, and the Volvo app, which allows drivers to precondition the vehicle remotely.

Safety systems are prioritised with advanced braking, steering support and driver monitoring sensors, all consistent with Volvo’s high safety standards.

Paving the way to build an “experience” around the latest model, Volvo is launching a Cross Country Experience package offering a suite of accessories, such as a load carrier, roof basket and mudflaps, at discounted rates.

Orders for the EX30 Cross Country are now available in selected markets, with deliveries starting in spring.
