The GAC Aion ES, a fully electric sedan, has been officially launched in Malaysia, making its debut at the 2025 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS).
Priced at RM106,800, it is currently the cheapest EV sedan available in the local market, aiming to make electric vehicles more accessible to Malaysian buyers.
The Aion ES is powered by a 55.2 kWh lithium-ion battery (LFP), offering a driving range of up to 442km (NEDC) or 350km (WLTP). Its electric motor delivers 136 PS (134hp) and 225Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100kph sprint in a leisurely 12.1 seconds.
The vehicle supports 6.6kW AC charging and 60kW DC charging. It takes 11 hours to charge from 0-100% using AC, while it’s 1.5 hours (0-100%) and 30 mins (30%-80% ) using DC.
The exterior features a sleek design with aerodynamic lines, while the interior boasts a minimalist approach, including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and a 3.5-inch LCD multi-info display.
Reflecting the budget price are a set of safety features that include two airbags, hill hold control, rear view camera, electronic stability control and antilock braking system.
The Aion ES is imported from China as a completely built-up (CBU) unit from GAC Motor.
It is backed by the usual eight-year or 160,000km (whichever comes first) warranty on the battery. Three colours are available – black, silver and white.
It is the second model to be offered in Malaysia by local distributor WTC Automotif Sdn Bhd.
It introduced the Aion Y Plus MPV in two versions in May, with prices starting from RM120,000.
