Touch ‘n Go has unveiled Titan Flow, a home-grown multi-lane fast flow system designed to pave the way for gateless tolling on Malaysian highways.
Revealed at the MyAsean Roads & Traffic Tech Expo (Nov 3-5) in Kuala Lumpur, the platform uses RFID as its primary detection method, supported by automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), 3D LiDAR and AI to identify vehicles by tag, plate, type, colour and speed of up to 320kph.
Touch ‘n Go chief executive officer Prabakaran Sangarajoo said the combined data improves vehicle classification accuracy and helps concessionaires reduce revenue leakages while maintaining performance in Malaysia’s varied weather conditions.
According to The Star, the company reported a 99.9% RFID detection rate and about 94% to 95% accuracy for ANPR.
The system would be integrated with Road Transport Department records to support enforcement and flag vehicles with unpaid tolls.
A key hurdle is adoption.
Prabakaran said RFID usage now stands at only about 20% to 21%, with at least 85% to 90% registration needed for full MLFF rollout.
To tackle failed transactions, chief technology officer Desmond Chin highlighted the SOS Balance feature, which has fronted over RM42 million in tolls since January with a 98% repayment rate, seen as a stepping stone towards barrier-free tolling.
