LG Electronics has announced that its webOS-based Automotive Content Platform (ACP) will deliver in-car streaming services in Kia’s new European models, beginning with the recently launched EV3 and extending to the EV4, EV5 and new Sportage.
The platform, which runs on the webOS system already installed on more than 240 million LG Smart TVs worldwide, has been tailored for the automotive environment to provide instant access to a broad range of content and services.
As part of LG AlphaWare, the company’s software-defined vehicle solution suite, the ACP aims to transform the vehicle into a “living space on wheels” by allowing occupants to stream directly to the infotainment display while parked.
Initial offerings include Netflix, Disney +, YouTube, LG Channels, Baby Shark World for Kids, Stingray Karaoke, Play.Works, Haystack News and Vasari.
The content library will be expanded later this year to include Rakuten TV, Napster and Germany’s Joyn service.
LG Vehicle Solution Company president Eun Seok-hyun said the collaboration “makes it easy for people to enjoy their favourite content wherever they go” and re-affirmed LG’s goal to expand its content ecosystem and enhancing in-vehicle entertainment and connectivity.
An automotive data plan is required to access streaming services, and certain apps may need separate subscriptions.
The ACP deployment in Europe follows successful implementations of the same technology in its home market.
