A leaked cabin image has given the first look inside the upcoming BYD Seagull, showing a much more substantial redesign than the current electric hatchback.
A spy shot published by Chinese automotive blogger 3YC User Report showed a new two-tier centre console with a large freestanding touchscreen above the dashboard. The small driver display used in the current Seagull is no longer visible, while a row of physical controls remains below the centre air vents.
The console also gains a large open storage area underneath, while the steering wheel has been redesigned. BYD has not officially released the interior images or confirmed whether the prototype cabin will reach production unchanged.
The cabin leak follows a July filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which revealed a considerably larger Seagull. The new facelifted model measures 4,205mm long, 1,810mm wide and 1,570mm high, with a 2,650mm wheelbase.
That stretches the wheelbase by 150mm. The filing lists five seats and kerb weights of 1,180kg and 1,255kg, depending on version.
Power also rises substantially. Both versions listed by the ministry use a permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing 95kW, with a 150kph top speed. Lithium iron phosphate batteries are specified, although capacity and driving range have yet to be disclosed.
The heavier version can also be equipped with lidar, together with additional radar and camera hardware.
BYD currently sells the 2026 Seagull in China but has yet to announce when this heavily revised version will go on sale or what it will cost.
Outside China, the Seagull is sold under several names, including Dolphin Surf, Dolphin Mini and Atto 1, depending on market.
