CATL plans to expand its directly operated EV battery service network to 100 cities worldwide in the second half of 2026, as the battery giant pushes deeper into diagnostics, repair and aftersales support.

The expansion will run under Ning Service, CATL’s independent aftermarket business. The company said agreements covering 100 cities had already been signed, with directly operated experience centres to open progressively through the rest of the year.

Ten such centres opened on Aug 10 in Haikou, Hangzhou, Zibo, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Suining, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Norway and Türkiye.

The new centres sit above CATL’s wider service footprint rather than replacing it.

Ning Service already operates 1,376 professional service stations across 84 countries, according to CATL.

Battery repair is a central part of the strategy. CATL said Ning Service can currently handle repairs across 76.8% of vehicle models, supported by its R1-R4 technical-authorisation system and cell-to-pack repair capability.

The company is targeting turnaround times of within 24 hours for general faults and 72 hours for more complex cases. Its workshops use automated equipment for processes including cutting, adhesive application and painting, while an in-house monitoring system tracks more than 150 points during deeper repair work.

CATL is also taking battery servicing beyond fixed workshops.

It unveiled an all-electric mobile battery maintenance and diagnostic vehicle with a claimed 800km driving range.

CATL said the vehicle carries more than 30 diagnostic functions and over 50 repair functions, and can deal with about 90% of repair scenarios that do not require deep battery work.

For complex faults handled through the mobile unit, CATL said turnaround could be reduced from 72 hours to 48 hours.

The broader push reflects CATL’s effort to build an EV battery aftersales system around diagnosis and repair, rather than relying on complete pack replacement whenever faults occur.
