Tesla has begun delivery of its Model Y SUV in Malaysia, with the first batch of vehicles handed over to customers at the Cyberjaya Experience Centre.

It did not state how many customers were in the first batch although one press release photo it supplied indicated not more than nine. It also did not provide a breakdown on which model variants were bought.

The Model Y is the world’s best-selling electric SUV and boasts a 5-star NHTSA safety rating, offering a blend of performance and practicality.

It features a spacious interior with a cargo capacity exceeding 2,100 litres, enough to accommodate five passengers and their luggage. The SUV also impresses with its performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.7 seconds and offering a range of up to 533km on a single charge (WLTP cycle).

Tesla launched the Model Y in Malaysia on July 20, 2023. It was followed by the Model 3 on Oct 19.

The Model Y comes in three versions priced at RM199,000, RM246,000 and RM288,000. The Model 3 is available in only two versions at RM189,000 and RM218,000.

Tesla said it will further develop its sales, after-sales service and charging support in the country as to provide a convenient and seamless Tesla ownership experience.

At present, Tesla has six DC Supercharging stations and eight AC Destination Charging stations in Malaysia; offering a total of 30 Superchargers and 37 Destination Chargers in major cities and towns.

More are coming.

The public can view the Model Y and Model 3 at Tesla’s Cyberjaya and Pavilion Damansara Heights showrooms.
