The much anticipated Volvo EX30 is finally here following its launch today.
It’s the smallest SUV ever from the Swedish company and is noted as being the quickest accelerating car ever built by the company.
The compact electric SUV comes in three versions: Plus, Ultra, and Ultra Twin Performance.
Prices (on-the-road without insurance) start at RM188,888 for the Plus, RM208,888 for the Ultra, and RM228,888 for the Ultra Twin Performance.
The EX30 features a 69kWh Li-ion battery with a range of up to 476 km for the single motor variants and 450 km for the dual-motor Ultra Twin.
The Ultra Twin Performance variant delivers 428 PS (422hp) and 543 Nm of torque, achieving 0-100kph in just 3.6 seconds. Meanwhile, the Plus and Ultra variants offer 272 PS (268hp) and 343 Nm of torque, reaching 0-100 kph in 5.3 seconds. All three versions have a top speed of 180 kph.
Charging capabilities include 175kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to reach 80% in 28 minutes. AC charging peaks at 11kW, which fully charges the vehicle from zero in 8 hours.
Initial batches of the EX30 will be imported, with local assembly slated to begin in 2025.
Standard equipment across all models includes LED headlights, 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, Harman Kardon premium sound system, Pilot Assist, and Volvo’s full suite of driver assistance systems.
The Ultra variants add Park Pilot Assist, a 360° camera, powered front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. The Ultra models are also available in a limited-run Moss Yellow colour, inspired by the Swedish coast.
The EX30 features an interior with a minimalist Scandinavian design, incorporating five ambient light themes inspired by Swedish nature.
It is also the first Volvo to integrate Harman Kardon’s premium sound system into a dashboard-embedded soundbar, freeing up space in the cabin. Storage solutions include wireless phone charging, a flexible central storage area, large door pockets, and a removable rear storage box that doubles as a trash bin.
Safety remains a priority with Volvo’s Safe Space Technology, enhanced by new features such as door-opening alerts for cyclists and improved Pilot Assist. Park Pilot Assist is capable of handling various parking scenarios, including parallel, perpendicular, and diagonal parking. The car’s compact size and low hood make it ideal for navigating tight city spaces.
The EX30 also boasts sustainability, featuring upcycled denim textiles and upholstery made from 100% recycled polyester. The car is designed with the lowest carbon footprint of any Volvo to date, emitting less than 30 tonnes of CO2 over 200,000 km of driving.
Buyers can place orders online or at Volvo showrooms, with financing options starting at RM1,588 per month.
A test drive event for the public will be held from Sept 26-29 at KL Base in Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur.
The local media are already familiar with the EX30, having test-driven the SUV on a trip to Janda Baik, Pahang three weeks earlier.
