Proton’s EV arm Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (Pro-NET) launched the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV today, positioning it as an “electric-first” plug-in hybrid aimed at Malaysians who want daily EV running with a petrol back-up for longer trips.

Prices start at RM109,800 for the Prime, RM123,800 for the Premium and RM129,800 for the Premium Plus (on-the-road, without insurance), while bookings opened with a RM99 fee.

Pro-NET also offered a launch rebate of RM4,000 for the first 5,000 customers, taking those on-the-road prices down to RM105,800, RM119,800 and RM125,800 respectively in Peninsular Malaysia.

Pro-NET said the PHEV’s petrol engine mainly play a supporting role, driving the wheels directly only when it is more efficient, such as during highway cruising or long uphill runs.

It said the model is based on its GMA platform and used an “EM-i Drive System” with an 11-in-1 dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) that manages power delivery without conventional gear shifts.

It also said the car uses an LFP battery and offers three modes: Pure (electric-only city driving), Hybrid (automatic blending, including direct engine drive when needed) and Power (sharper response using combined output).

Ahead of launch, Pro-NET said the PHEV had completed a 1,104.5km journey from Penang and Johor Baru to Subang Jaya without additional refuelling or recharging, ending with a displayed remaining range of 189km and a claimed achievable total range of more than 1,200km, It’s a similar claim made by Chery for its two SUV PHEVs.

To sweeten early ownership, Pro-NET bundled “Five Power Packs” worth up to RM7,500, including a 7kW home charger, trade-in support and an insurance package, and it offered a six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty plus an eight-year/160,000km high-voltage battery and component warranty.

A day earlier, Pro-NET said it delivered 3,026 units of the smaller e.MAS 5 in January 2026, calling it the brand’s highest-ever monthly deliveries for a single model.

It added that Proton e.MAS recorded 9,549 vehicles sold in 2025, representing about six percent of Proton’s annual sales and 22 percent of Malaysia’s EV market share.

The company said it is maintaining a RM3,000 launch rebate for the e.MAS 5 hatchback, which it launched on Oct 30, 2025 as an affordable EV. It comes with a WLTP range of up to 325km plus fast DC charging for day-to-day use.
