Volkswagen’s Jetta brand has launched its first electric vehicle, the M6 saloon, in China from 79,800 yuan (around RM49,000), taking on domestic rivals in the country’s competitive entry-level EV market.
The FAW-Volkswagen model comes in three variants: 465 Pro at 79,800 yuan (RM48,800), 555 Max at 89,800 yuan (RM54,900) and 555 Ultra at 99,800 yuan (RM61,000).
Built on Jetta’s in-house “Jiesi” dedicated EV architecture, the M6 offers two battery capacities.
The entry-level model gets a 42.9kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with 465km of CLTC range, while the two higher variants use a 51.9kWh pack rated for 555km.
A front-mounted electric motor produces 113kW and 230Nm in the 465 Pro, giving it a 0-100kph time of 8.3 seconds.
The 555 Max and Ultra get 145kW and 260Nm, cutting acceleration to 6.8 seconds. All three variants are front-wheel drive, with DC charging from 30% to 80% taking a claimed 25 minutes.
Measuring 4,806mm long with a 2,820mm wheelbase, the M6 has a drag coefficient of 0.208.
Inside, all variants come with an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen. The infotainment system integrates Chinese AI platforms DeepSeek, Doubao and Qwen, with Apple CarPlay, CarLink and HiCar connectivity.
The 555 Max adds heated and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging and a glass sunroof with a three-layer silver coating.
The flagship Ultra goes further with front seat massage functions, electric lumbar adjustment and 256-colour ambient lighting.
It also gets Horizon Robotics’ Journey 6M chip, supporting Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) driver assistance for urban roads and highways, automatic lane changes and memory parking.
The M6 marks Jetta’s entry into China’s battery-electric market after years of selling petrol-powered models under the FAW-Volkswagen partnership.
