Hyundai Mobis says it has formed a four-way “Quad Alliance” with Zeiss, tesa and Saint-Gobain Sekurit to accelerate mass production of holographic windscreen displays, betting the technology could become a key battleground in next-generation in-car screens.

The South Korean supplier said the partnership brought together specialist expertise across optics, adhesive materials and automotive glazing, with Hyundai Mobis taking charge of system design and integration, including the projector that cast images onto the windscreen.

Zeiss was set to handle optical design and the master development of the holographic film, tesa was tasked with reliable, precise mass replication of the holographic film, and Saint-Gobain Sekurit was to manage the process of bonding the film into windscreen glass.

At the centre of the push was Hyundai Mobis’ Holographic Windshield Display (HWD), which aimed to turn the front windscreen into a large transparent display without adding a separate physical screen.

The company said the goal was to keep driving information in the driver’s line of sight, while freeing cabin space from yet another slab of glass and plastics.

Hyundai Mobis said the system used a holographic optical element (HOE) film laminated within the windscreen to project driving information and infotainment imagery to both the driver and front passenger.

It claimed the HOE film maintained at least 92% transmittance, while delivering brightness above 10,000 nits for visibility in daylight.

It also said the optics could be configured so the driver could not see the passenger-side content, allowing passengers to use features such as video and gaming while the vehicle was moving.

The alliance targeted commercialisation by 2029.

Hyundai Mobis had been showing the tech at major events including CES, IAA and the Shanghai motor show, and it said its HWD, as part of the M.VICS 7.0 cockpit platform, won a CES 2026 Innovation Award.

“We will collaborate with global partners through the mass production phase to maximise our technological competitiveness and firmly establish our image as a leader in innovative technology in the global market,” said Jung Soo-kyung, Executive Vice President and Head of the Automotive Electronics Business Unit at Hyundai Mobis.
