Hyundai confirms Ioniq 3 name ahead of Brussels show tease

Hyundai has put an official badge on its next compact electric car: Ioniq 3.

The company started building anticipation ahead of the Brussels Motor Show with a short teaser run that spelled out “ION” across its social channels, pointing to more information tied to the event.

What Hyundai has not done yet is publish full production specifications.

For now, the clearest reference point remained Concept Three, the compact Ioniq study that debuted at IAA Mobility in Munich in September 2025.

Hyundai had positioned that concept as a preview of a smaller, more accessible EV sitting below the Ioniq 5 for European buyers.

Hyundai’s own Concept Three data put the show car at 4,287mm long, which places it in familiar “small family car” territory.

Whether the road-going Ioniq 3 lands at the same size remains unconfirmed, but the intent is obvious: a compact footprint without giving up the cabin-first thinking Hyundai leans on in its Ioniq messaging.

Design cues are already signposted. Hyundai called the theme “Art of Steel”, and the concept’s translucent rear spoiler and pixel-style lighting signatures looked likely to influence the production car’s direction, even if details are toned down in the production car.

On hardware, multiple reports point to a 400-volt set-up rather than Hyundai’s 800-volt flagship architecture, a cost-led choice that would fit a smaller, lower-priced EV.

Those same reports suggested battery options at around 58.3kWh and 81.4kWh, with a projected WLTP range band that could sit roughly between 420km and 590km depending on configuration and driving conditions. None of that is confirmed by Hyundai yet.

Pricing is likewise speculative. UK reports put a starting point around £25,000 (RM138,000), which would position the Ioniq 3 as a step above the smallest city EVs while undercutting larger, longer-range models.

Hyundai said more details and a first look at the Ioniq 3 are on the way as the Brussels show kicked off.

The Ioniq 3 was unveiled alongside the Staria Electric, which made its world premiere at the show.
