Megawatt EV charging is coming to Malaysia, with the Denza Z9GT arriving as the first locally sold BYD Group model built to use the company’s 1.5MW flash charging system.

The chargers are not operating here yet. BYD Malaysia said deployment remains at the research and planning stage, with the first units intended for selected BYD and Denza showrooms and service centres. No opening timetable has been announced.

Denza claims a compatible flash charger can take the Z9GT’s battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes, or to 97% in nine minutes. Buyers will receive three years of complimentary flash charging once the network becomes available.

The fully electric shooting brake is priced at RM358,800 before registration, road tax and insurance. Malaysia receives one fully imported all-wheel-drive version and is the first Asia-Pacific market outside China to introduce the revised 2026 model.

Three motors deliver a combined 850kW, or 1,156PS, and 1,210Nm. The front motor produces 230kW, while each rear wheel is driven by a 310kW motor. Denza quotes 0-100kph in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 269kph.

A 122.49kWh second-generation Blade lithium iron phosphate battery provides 600km of WLTP range. The car uses a 1,000-volt electrical architecture to accommodate the claimed charging rate.

The Z9GT measures 5,180mm long and 1,990mm wide, with a 3,125mm wheelbase. Up to 20 degrees of independent rear-wheel steering reduces its turning radius to 4.62 metres.

Crab Walk mode uses a maximum 15-degree angle and allows the car to move diagonally in confined spaces. A Pencil Compass Turn function uses steering and individual rear-motor control to rotate the car within a tight area.

DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension is standard, with Malaysian cars receiving the European suspension tune.

The cabin carries a 17.3-inch central touchscreen flanked by two 13.2-inch displays, with Google Maps and Google Assistant integrated. Equipment includes powered, heated, ventilated and massaging seats, front and rear refrigerators, four-zone climate control, three wireless phone chargers and a 20-speaker Devialet audio system.

The rear boot holds 495 litres, joined by a 53-litre front compartment. Nine airbags and a full driver-assistance package are standard.

Warranty cover runs for six years or 150,000km, while the battery and drive unit are covered for eight years or 160,000km. Six years of scheduled servicing is included.
