You know the Hyundai Staria as a diesel and petrol MPV. Now, Hyundai has dished up an electric version of the model.

The Korean automaker unveiled the Staria Electric at the Brussels Motor Show on Jan 9, positioning it as a battery-powered take on a people-mover that has already built a following among families and shuttle operators.

The company said the new vehicle, its biggest EV yet, is part of its wider push to widen everyday EV choices in Europe, not just in passenger cars but in practical, high-utility vehicles too.

“Hyundai continues to expand its electric offering to meet everyday mobility needs in Europe,” said Hyundai Motor Europe president and CEO Xavier Martinet.

“Staria Electric brings our EV expertise to a vehicle that many customers already know and trust, combining Staria’s impressive space and flexibility with a new, fast-charging, high-voltage system and updated interior to deliver practical, efficient electric mobility for real-world use across Europe.”

Staria Electric uses an 84kWh battery and a 160kW (218PS) front-wheel-drive motor, with an estimated WLTP range of up to 400km.

Hyundai also said it has an 800-volt electrical architecture that supports DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes under optimal conditions. For routine charging, an 11kW AC onboard charger is offered.

Hyundai is talking up a flat floor, multi-row seating flexibility, and what it calls a lounge-like cabin feel, supported by a long body, low beltline and expansive glazing aimed at improving visibility and the sense of space.

In higher trims, the company said heated and ventilated seating extends to the second row, while storage and day-to-day cabin practicality remain central.

Two versions lead the launch: a 7-seat “Luxury” aimed at private and leisure use, and a 9-seat “Wagon” pitched at larger families and shuttle work.

Hyundai said towing is rated up to 2,000kg (braked), and the feature list includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), 100W USB ports and a digital key.

The cabin adopts a horizontal layout with dual 12.3-inch displays, plus Hyundai’s ccNC infotainment system, over-the-air updates and wireless smartphone connectivity.

Production is set to begin in Ulsan, South Korea. Hyundai said Staria Electric is due to go on sale in its home market and Europe in the first half of 2026, with other markets to follow.
