Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Nissan Motorsports & Customizing Co., Ltd. (NMC) has unveiled the Aura Nismo RS Concept at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, pitching it as a harder-edged take on the Aura Nismo hot hatch and a testbed for future development.

Nissan said the concept begins life as an Aura Nismo, then paired that lightweight base with the high-output e-Power system from the X-Trail Nismo.

The company described it as a technical validation exercise that blends mass-production know-how with motorsports development, while it also studied the potential of turning the idea into a production car.

Visually, the Aura Nismo RS Concept evolved the Aura Nismo’s “Agile Electric City Racer” theme with a more muscular stance and sharper surfacing.

Nissan widened the body with fenders expanded by 145mm and dropped ride height by 20mm, aiming for a lower centre of gravity and a more aggressive silhouette.

Aerodynamics got equal attention. Nissan fitted a front spoiler, side skirts and a rear diffuser with Nismo’s signature red accents, along with airflow-optimised front fenders, side air splitters and a dedicated rear spoiler. The car wears an exclusive Dark Matte Nismo Stealth Gray finish, which Nissan said was designed to keep a consistent look under varying sunlight.

On performance, Nissan targeted acceleration, handling and braking. A wider track is meant to sharpen stability on straight and twisting roads, while Nismo-tuned e-4ORCE all-wheel control and high-grip tyres aim to boost traction and cornering.

Braking was upgraded with large opposed-piston calipers, four-pot front and two-pot rear, to offset a roughly 100kg weight increase over the Aura Nismo.

Nissan and NMC said they plan to keep refining the concept for potential racing use as well as possible commercialisation.

“Under our Re:Nissan strategy, we are committed to introducing heartbeat models at speed that resonate with customers,” said Yutaka Sanada, president and CEO of NMC.

“We are extremely pleased to unveil the Aura Nismo RS Concept as our first offering born from our collective NMC expertise.”
