GAC Toyota has recalled about 24,000 bZ7 electric sedans in China to correct two software faults that could interrupt power delivery or reduce windscreen visibility.
The action began today, according to China’s State Administration for Market Regulation recall centre.
Repairs will be carried out mainly through free over-the-air software updates. Cars that cannot be updated remotely will be called into dealerships.
One recall filing covers 15,266 bZ7s built from Oct 28, 2025 to June 15, 2026.
A fault in the smart Bluetooth module could send an incorrect command to the vehicle controller, causing the car to shift automatically from Drive into Neutral while moving.
This would cut power to the wheels and raise the risk of an accident. The regulator advised affected drivers to press the brake lightly and reselect Drive, or stop safely and contact a dealer.
A second filing covers 24,286 cars produced between Oct 28, 2025 and July 10, 2026. Faulty thermal-management software could stop the air-conditioning compressor and water heater after the vehicle is switched on.
In extreme conditions, this may weaken windscreen demisting and defrosting performance, restricting the driver’s view.
The two groups overlap, leaving about 24,000 individual cars affected rather than 39,552.
Owners will be notified through registered mail and the GAC Toyota mobile app.
