Production of Macans with petrol engines will end in summer 2026, but Porsche is not quite done with its long-running combustion-engined SUV.
The Macan’s combustion story was not always petrol-only. In its early years, Porsche also sold diesel versions in some markets, including the Macan S Diesel, before dropping diesel from its range in 2018 as demand fell and the brand shifted its attention to petrol, hybrid and electric models. Porsche said it had stopped offering diesel models from February 2018 and made the final decision in September that year not to offer diesel drivetrains in future.
Now, the petrol Macan is heading the same way.
Porsche confirmed in its first-quarter delivery report that production of the combustion-engined Macan will continue only until this summer. It is still available in most markets outside the European Union, where the old model has already exited the showroom.
That makes for awkward timing for the German sports car maker. The Macan Electric is now on sale, but the petrol Macan is still carrying a sizeable share of Macan sales.
In the first quarter of 2026, Porsche delivered 18,209 Macans worldwide. Of that total, 10,130 were combustion-engined versions, while the Macan Electric accounted for 8,079 units.
So yes, the electric replacement has arrived. But buyers are not switching over fast enough.
According to Motor1, Porsche is trying to squeeze out more petrol Macans before the cut-off, with output still governed by plant capacity and supplier parts.
The idea is to keep cars available for markets where demand remains strong, especially North America, Porsche’s largest sales region. Some markets may still have cars to sell next year.
Porsche has blamed part of its weaker electric and hybrid performance in the US on the loss of tax incentives. That makes the old petrol Macan useful for a little longer, even if its production clock is now running down.
Across Porsche as a whole, global deliveries fell 15 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter to 60,991 cars.
The end of combustion 718 production, the earlier ramp-up effect of the Macan Electric and softer conditions in China all dragged deliveries lower.
The all-electric Cayenne is next in line, with first customer deliveries due from summer.
