Bridgestone Malaysia has launched the Potenza Adrenalin RE005, the replacement for the RE004 and the latest member of its sporty street-tyre range.
For Malaysian buyers, the useful bits are the claimed grip gains, the wet-road work and the fact that Bridgestone is also pitching it at EV owners.
Bridgestone said the RE005 improves dry grip by 8% and wet grip by 10% over the previous tyre.
That wet-weather gain is probably the more relevant number for Malaysia. The RE005 uses a wider block tread design to spread contact pressure more evenly, while its A-shaped grooves and wider inner rib are meant to improve steering response and cornering stability.
There is also a rain pulse groove to move water away from the contact patch, reducing the chance of aquaplaning in heavy rain. Bridgestone has also used a rubber compound aimed at better grip, heat resistance, lower rolling resistance and wear life.
The EV angle comes through Bridgestone’s Enliten technology and the tyre’s lower rolling resistance.
The RE005 is not being pitched only at petrol-powered sporty sedans and hatchbacks. It is also meant to suit newer EVs, where efficiency and tyre wear are bigger ownership questions.
A multi-round block design is used to keep contact pressure more consistent as the tyre wears. That should help the tyre feel more even over time, rather than sharp when new and vague later in life.
Bridgestone Tyre Sales Malaysia managing director Michael Chung said the RE005 was developed with Bridgestone’s motorsport DNA and engineered for Malaysian roads and weather.
The Potenza Adrenalin RE005 is now available at selected authorised Bridgestone dealers nationwide. It comes in 46 sizes covering 15- to 20-inch wheels, with recommended retail prices from RM351 to RM1,543 per tyre.
