ALERT: Tesla Malaysia has updated the Model Y range by replacing the old Black and White cabin with a new RM5,000 Zen Grey interior option across all variants, extending the look first seen on the six-seat Model Y L and adding more light-coloured trim across areas such as the console, armrest and door handles. The April 2026 refresh also brings a darker finish for the optional 20-inch Helix 2.0 wheels. Prices remain unchanged.
Tesla launched the Model Y L in Malaysia on April 1 in Kuala Lumpur, adding a stretched six-seat version of its electric SUV priced at RM262,615 (on-the-road excluding insurance and options).
The new variant gives Tesla a Model Y aimed at family buyers, with a 2-2-2 seating layout and second-row captain’s chairs instead of the usual bench. This is the fourth Model Y variant offered locally.
As the name suggests, the Model Y L is bigger than the standard Model Y. The wheelbase is stretched by 149mm to 3,040mm, with a longer body and a taller roof, opening more space for third-row seating comfort.
The SUV is equipped with heated and ventilated second-row seats and power-folding rear seats.
The spec sheet shows the car is fitted with an 82kWh NMC battery, has a 681km WLTP range and a dual-motor 462PS (340kW) set-up, enabling it to sprint from 0-100kph in 5.0 seconds to a 201kph top speed.
Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability is supported, although the required Tesla outlet adapter is still not available locally yet.
Tesla claims the car can recover up to 288km of range in 15 minutes on its Supercharger network.
Tesla regional director Isabel Fan said the company wants to be known as a “physical AI company” in 2026 since it is combining AI, electric mobility, energy storage and robotics. She also said Tesla is sticking with direct sales rather than dealers, while using OTA updates, remote diagnostics and round-the-clock customer support to make ownership and after-sales simpler.
Fan said Tesla now offers cross-border warranty support across Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. She said the regional charging network has grown to 75 Supercharger locations with more than 370 fast chargers, while 18 charging stations are already operating in Malaysia. Over 11,000 homes in Malaysia are now fitted with Tesla’s AC chargers, she added.
As for the car itself, standard paint is Stealth Grey. Buyers can pay RM5,000 for Pearl White Multi-Coat or Diamond Black, RM7,500 for Glacier Blue, and RM11,000 for either Cosmic Silver or Ultra Red.
The standard cabin is black, while Zen Grey trim adds RM5,000. A fully optioned car, including Full Self-Driving Capability at RM32,000, can reach RM309,700 on the road, without insurance.
Estimated delivery is listed at one to three months.
As for its other model, Tesla appears to have cut one Model 3 variant from its local line-up. The Model 3 Long Range AWD has been removed from Tesla Malaysia’s website, reducing the range from five variants to four.
That version had previously started from RM199,000, offered 660km WLTP of range, and posted 0-100kph in 4.4 seconds. Its exit leaves the Model 3 Performance as the only all-wheel-drive Model 3 still officially listed in Malaysia.
