Mahindra has pulled the wraps off the XEV 9S, a three-row electric SUV it calls India’s first ground-up “electric-origin” seven-seater, built on the new INGLO platform and priced from about 19.95 lakh (RM93,000).

Revealed as the first product of Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd, the XEV 9S is designed for Indian families and business owners who have outgrown compact EVs.

It runs on an LFP battery with a claimed real-world range of up to 500km and comes with a lifetime battery warranty, signalling that Mahindra wants to calm long-term durability worries from day one.

It is a full-size SUV that touts plenty of space. The company quotes 4,076 litres of cabin volume for the first two rows, a boot of up to 527 litres and a 150-litre frunk, plus a 50:50 split third row.

Ground clearance is listed at 205mm, with 222mm between the pack and the road, so the 9S still talks the “proper SUV” game.

Performance figures are punchy for a seven-seater. In top spec the XEV 9S delivers 210kW and 380Nm, does 0–100kph in a claimed 7.0 seconds and tops out at 202kph.

Suspension hardware includes adaptive dampers with i-Link up front and a five-link rear, while brake-by-wire and variable-ratio steering round out the chassis tech.

Inside, Mahindra is pitching a lounge rather than a taxi. There are ventilated second-row “boss” seats with recline and slide, sunshades, wireless phone charging and a powered “lounge desk”. Three 31.24cm screens, 5G connectivity and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon system with Dolby Atmos handle infotainment duties.

Safety and driver assistance kit runs to seven airbags, Level 2+ ADAS with five radars and one camera, driver-monitoring under the Eyedentity banner, and a VisionX augmented-reality head-up display. Mahindra’s in-house MAIA software stack underpins more than 140 connected features including a digital key and charge scheduling.

First deliveries start from Jan 23.
