BYD has unveiled the Atto 8 flagship electric SUV at the Paris Motor Show, offering seven seats, up to 652 km of WLTP range and a claimed nine-minute battery recharge using its latest Flash Charging technology.
The Atto 8 sits above the Atto 2, Atto 3, Sealion 5 and Seal U in BYD’s European SUV range, with sales set to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Measuring 5,040 mm long, 1,996 mm wide and 1,760 mm tall, the SUV will be offered in two configurations, both equipped with a 115 kWh second-generation Blade Battery.
The Design RWD uses a single rear motor producing 340 kW (462 PS) and 365 Nm, with a 0–100 kph time of eight seconds and 652 km of WLTP range.
The more powerful Excellence AWD adds a front motor, raising combined output to 570 kW (775 PS) and 775 Nm. It accelerates from 0–100 kph in 4.6 seconds, although range drops to 602 km.
A major feature is BYD’s Flash Charging system, which can reportedly replenish the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes, or 10% to 97% in nine minutes.
BYD also claims a 20–97% recharge takes just 12 minutes at minus 30°C.
The company plans to install 3,000 Flash Charging stations across Europe by the end of 2027.
Inside, the Atto 8 features a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google built-in and a 26-inch head-up display.
Equipment includes leather upholstery, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a panoramic glass roof and three-zone climate control.
Luggage capacity ranges from 270 litres with all seven seats occupied to 1,960 litres with the second and third rows folded. A further 136 litres is available beneath the bonnet.
BYD Shark DMO makes European debut
BYD also presented its Shark DMO plug-in hybrid pick-up, ahead of sales in selected European markets within the next three months.
Its 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works with two electric motors to produce 436 PS and 650 Nm, enabling 0–100 kph acceleration in 5.7 seconds.
A 32.2 kWh Blade Battery provides 90 km of electric-only range, while combined WLTP range reaches 674 km. DC charging at up to 55 kW replenishes the battery from 30% to 80% in 21 minutes.
Dolphin Surf gains five-seat option
The updated Dolphin Surf electric hatchback also made its Paris debut, introducing a five-seat configuration alongside the existing four-seater.
Changes include revised cabin materials, a steering-column gear selector and upgraded infotainment. The Comfort variant gains a 12.8-inch touchscreen with Google built-in, while heated steering wheels and additional comfort equipment are offered on selected versions.
Both seating configurations will remain available according to individual market requirements.
