GWM Malaysia has introduced the Tank 500 HEV Black Edition, a darker, more assertive take on its flagship hybrid SUV, priced at RM336,800 — an RM8,000 premium over the standard Tank 500 HEV.
Announced in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, the variant targets buyers who want luxury with a bolder road presence.
The Black Edition keeps the proven 2.0-litre turbo hybrid powertrain and the full suite of comfort, safety and intelligent driving features from the regular model.
Its changes are visual and comprehensive: darkened headlamps, a black grille, bumper and fog-lamp garnishes, black tail-lamp and back-door trims, a black rear bumper protector and lower guard plate, black door handles and window surrounds, black roof rails, black electric side steps and 20-inch black alloy wheels.
The result is a factory-finished blackout look that sharpens the SUV’s stance without sacrificing the refinement that underpins the nameplate.
Ownership terms aim to reassure first adopters. Private first owners receive a lifetime warranty on the engine, transmission and hybrid system.
The power battery is covered for eight years or 200,000 km, the vehicle for six years with unlimited mileage, and there is a five-year free maintenance package. Early customers will also receive a Limited Edition Premium Gift Set.
The Black Edition sits atop a model already positioned as one of the more capable luxury hybrids on sale in Malaysia, blending body-on-frame toughness with an upscale cabin and advanced driver assistance.
By focusing the update on design cues rather than mechanical changes, GWM has arguably created a halo variant that broadens showroom appeal while keeping the core product familiar to existing prospects.
GWM said the momentum will continue with fresh EV models: the company plans to launch the new Ora Good Cat and GT on Nov 6, adding a sportier flavour to its electric line-up for local buyers.
