Pro-NET has launched its first standalone charging hub in Tanjung Malim, offering access to all electric vehicle (EV) owners.
The site is intended to broaden EV uptake and support Malaysia’s wider charging network by allowing any brand to plug in.
It is equipped with two DC chargers and four charging bays, delivering a combined station output power of 120kW and allowing four EVs to charge at once.
Unlike previous facilities operated through third-party providers, this is Proton’s first and standalone charging infrastructure, managed by Pro-NET.
The hub debuts an app-free payment system: users scan a QR code to open a web interface to start a session and pay. Proton e.MAS and smart drivers can also charge via their respective apps, which are integrated with the system.
Pricing is set at 80 sen per kWh, positioning the hub among the country’s more affordable paid public chargers. To mark the opening, a 50% discount applies from Oct 1-31, cutting the tariff to 40 sen per kWh for all users.
“This charging hub is a significant step forward for us, not just as a facility but as part of our commitment to build a stronger EV ecosystem for Malaysia,” said Pro-NET chief executive officer Zhang Qiang.
“By keeping the service affordable and simple to use, we hope to make EV adoption more appealing for everyone. Tanjung Malim is where Pro-NET’s story began, so it is fitting for us to also start this new chapter here.”
The opening comes as Proton gears up its electrification plans in Tanjung Malim.
A new EV plant there is due to begin operations soon, assembling Malaysia’s first locally produced EVs.
Pro-NET said the investment would create jobs, build local capability and strengthen the domestic supply chain as the Perak town positions itself as a hub for electric mobility.
