Hyundai has unveiled Concept Three at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, its first compact EV concept under the Ioniq sub-brand, flagging an expansion into Europe’s high-volume small-car segment.
The study introduces an “Art of Steel” design language and previews a city-friendly package aimed at buyers prioritising space efficiency, sustainability and accessible pricing.
The brand paired the debut with an update on its electrification roadmap: an electrified version of every Hyundai model in Europe by 2027 and 21 EVs globally by 2030.
Hyundai sees Europe as central to that plan, citing strong environmental policy, dense urban centres and customer demand for compact, efficient vehicles.
Nearly 80% of Hyundai cars sold in Europe are already built locally, a base the company said would help it tailor products and manufacturing, including greater use of renewable energy and recycled materials.
Hydrogen fuel-cell development remains part of the long-term mix.
Design cues on Concept Three stress material honesty and aero efficiency.
The Aero Hatch profile uses Three primary surfaces and a vertical tailgate to blend practicality with drag reduction.
Parametric Pixel lighting returns in a more expressive gradient motif. An anodised-effect exterior finish is paired with lemon-tinted glass and wheels, linking to a cabin finished in soft yellow and grey tones.
Inside, the focus is on calm, modular spaces: “Bring Your Own Lifestyle” widgets allow personalised storage and interfaces, while a playful “Mr. Pix” character provides Easter-egg-style interactions.
Hyundai also pointed out the ocean-waste textiles and lightweight aluminium foam as examples of materials it aims to scale.
At Hyundai’s 58-metre-wide Parametric Pixel-inspired pavilion on Munich’s Ludwigstraße, the company is showing Concept Three alongside the Insteroid concept and production Ioniq models.
Visitors can test-drive nine vehicles, including Ioniq 9 and Inster, as well as Kona Electric and performance-focused Ioniq 5 N.
A design showcase featured a sculpture referencing Concept Three’s surfacing and a lounge chair that translates the car’s hard-shell/soft-form theme into furniture.
Hyundai positions Concept Three as a tone-setter rather than a near-production reveal, but the message is clear: a compact Ioniq model is next on the European agenda, designed to broaden the brand’s EV reach while advancing safety, sustainability and user experience.
