The Proton e.MAS 7 has solidified its position as Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle, bolstered by the recent sale of 797 units in March which lifted its first quarter cumulative total to 1,853.

The affordable model, priced from RM105,800 for the Prime variant and RM119,800 for the Premium, continues to attract buyers with its spacious interior, boasting 33 compartments and a long wheelbase designed for passenger comfort.

Its performance credentials are reinforced by an advanced battery – rigorously tested – ensuring durability under harsh conditions while providing an accurate WLTP range.

Proton is also working on growing the charging network. It offers access to over 2,300 public charging points and 75 fast DC charging points at select dealerships. A dedicated mobile app integrates these options into a live charging map and facilitates seamless fee payment, enhancing the overall ownership experience.

As exports are key to Proton’s growth, the e.MAS 7 has just entered Nepal and is slated to debut in Trinidad and Tobago.

A high-profile road trip across the Asean region, starting and concluding in Malaysia, is showcasing the e.MAS 7’s capability and reliability.

The trip echoed a trip by the Geely Galaxy E5 from China to Malaysia late last year for exactly the same reason. The E5 is the model that the e.MAS 7 is based on. Geely is marketing the E5 outside China as the EX5.

The e.MAS 7’s success has helped maintain a forecast year-to-date market share of 30% in its EV segment, reflecting strong consumer confidence in Proton’s sustainable mobility initiatives.

Proton reported a strong finish for March with group sales reaching 13,918 units – a 23.9% rise on February figures and a 9.6% improvement compared to March 2024 – contributing to a forecast market share of 19.4% based on an estimated Total Industry Volume of 71,596 units.

The company’s first quarter overall sales climbed to 35,068 units, capturing an 18.9% share of a total industry volume of 184,652 units.

The internal combustion engine model range also fared well.

The S70 led the C-segment, recording a 77.5% increase in March to 2,125 units and accumulating 4,465 units Year-To-Date.

In the SUV category, the X90 saw sales surge by 73.6% in March to 302 units, raising its quarterly total to 679 units, while the X50 maintained its lead as the best-selling SUV with 1,858 units in March and 5,117 units in the first quarter.

The X70 experienced a notable revival, with March sales increasing by 29.3% to 835 units and quarterly figures jumping 52% to 2,158 units.

The Saga registered its best month in March by surpassing 6,000 units for the first time, with sales up by 22.5% to reach 6,154 units, while the Persona and Iriz also achieved their highest monthly sales, at 1,482 and 337 units respectively.
