Michelin has launched the Michelin Primacy 5 tyre for passenger cars and crossovers of all engine types, introducing a host of improvements over its predecessor, the Primacy 4.
The new model is designed to meet the changing demands of modern vehicles, including hybrids and electric cars, which benefit from enhanced performance, longevity and reduced environmental impact.
Michelin managing director for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Prichapakorn Dangrojana said the Primacy 5 has been developed to address the challenges posed by vehicles with increased horsepower and weight.
Its construction has been optimised to deliver improved wear life, lower rolling resistance and sustained wet grip performance, thereby reducing running costs and ensuring safety throughout the tyre’s extended life.
Michelin asserts that the new Primacy 5 offers several key advantages over competing premium brands.
The redesigned tread pattern, featuring Michelin Silent Rib Gen-3 technology, significantly cuts vibrations and noise for a quieter and more comfortable drive.
The tyre is said to achieve 24% more mileage than other premium offerings, benefitting from a 10% increase in void ratio compared to its predecessor, while optimised lateral groove edges and MaxTouch technology maximise road contact and evenly distribute forces during acceleration, braking and cornering.
In wet conditions, the tyre shortens braking distances by 8% when new and 13% when worn, utilising Michelin EverGrip and EverTread technologies to enhance water evacuation and wet performance.
Engineered with electric vehicle compatibility in mind, the Primacy 5 incorporates a high-performance tread rubber compound that reduces rolling resistance by 13%, thereby improving energy consumption and extending battery range. In line with Michelin’s “All Sustainable” strategy, improvements to rolling resistance (by 5%) and longevity (by 18%) mean the tyre can be used until legal tread depth is reached, reducing waste and minimising its environmental footprint by 6%.
In Malaysia, the Primacy 5 is available in 25 sizes ranging from 16 to 19 inches with recommended retail prices from RM477 to RM1,026.
From Jan 6 to April 9, three lucky customers buying at least two Michelin tyres will have a chance to win a 2025 Tesla Model Y Facelift. Full details are available on Michelin’s official website.
