Volvo is set to reveal its all-new, fully electric ES90 on March 5.

The Swedish brand has equipped the sedan with a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, making it the most powerful car it has ever produced in terms of core computing capacity.

This system, capable of roughly 508 trillion operations per second, replaces the previous generation’s NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Xavier and delivers an eightfold increase in AI compute performance.

As a result, Volvo plans to expand its deep learning models from 40 million to 200 million parameters over time to enhance safety, performance, and overall driving experience.

Built on the SPA2 architecture and supported by the Superset tech stack, the ES90 is engineered to improve continuously through over-the-air updates.

These updates will not only add new connectivity and safety features but can also optimise driving attributes and battery management based on individual driving behaviours.

With the Superset tech stack underpinning all upcoming Volvo electric models, software improvements can be rolled out simultaneously across the range, effectively making software the primary driver of innovation and value creation.

Safety is a key focus, with the ES90 featuring an advanced sensor array that includes one lidar, five radars, eight cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors. This suite supports Volvo’s Safe Space Technology, designed to detect obstacles and activate proactive safety measures, such as collision avoidance, even in challenging conditions.

Chief Engineering and Technology Officer Anders Bell stated, “The Volvo ES90 is one of the most technically advanced cars on the market today and is designed to be improved further with time.”

The dual Orin configuration will also upgrade the EX90, with existing customers receiving hardware enhancements free of charge. With its blend of cutting-edge core computing and continuous software evolution, the ES90 aims to deliver a safe, efficient, and progressively smarter driving experience for modern motorists.
