CATL today launched the Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery, the world’s first hybrid vehicle battery capable of d
elivering over 400km of pure electric range and 4C superfast charging. This innovation addresses long-standing consumer frustrations with limited range, slow charging, and poor performance in extreme temperatures for extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
Designed specifically for EREVs and PHEVs, Freevoy enables a full week’s commute on a single charge. It also provides over 280km of range with just 10 minutes of charging, effectively reducing range anxiety.
CATL credits the battery’s performance to advanced materials and technologies, including surface-modified cathode materials, high-voltage electrolyte formulations, and a nano protective layer that minimizes side reactions.
These innovations enhance lithium-ion transport and improve power performance by 20%. Additionally, upgrades to CATL’s Battery Management System (BMS) and algorithms have increased charge control accuracy by 40%, boosting pure electric utilisation rates by 10%.
Freevoy also incorporates CATL’s sodium-ion battery technology to enhance low-temperature performance. It operates reliably at extreme conditions, with discharge capability down to -40°C and charging capacity at -30°C.
The use of AB battery integration technology, combining sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries, further improves range and control precision in cold environments.
Safety and reliability are key priorities for Freevoy, with CATL implementing multi-layer protections, advanced manufacturing processes, and big data-driven early warning systems.
Freevoy is already in use by brands such as Li Auto, AVATR, and Changan Evo. By 2025, 30 hybrid models from automakers including Geely, Chery, and GAC will feature the battery.
