Vietnam’s automotive market is on the rise, showing great promise in Southeast Asia. The country’s unique position allows it to skip traditional combustion engines and jump straight into electric vehicles (EVs). This shift has caught the eye of investors worldwide.

In recent years, car ownership in Vietnam has surged. Despite a temporary dip in sales, the long-term outlook remains strong. This is due to the country’s growing economy, rapid urbanization, and an expanding middle class. The arrival of VinFast, a major player in the local EV market, has further fueled this growth.

While VinFast leads domestic EV sales, other brands like BMW, BYD, Great Wall Motor, Mercedes-Benz, and TMT Motors are entering the market. These new players are creating a more competitive landscape and driving the need for a robust EV ecosystem. Experts predict a 25.8% annual growth rate in the EV market from 2023 to 2032.

Vietnam offers significant opportunities for investment in production, assembly, and after-sales services. The government supports this growth with incentives and policies aimed at boosting car ownership and stimulating investment.

Trade agreements like the Asean Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the EU-Vietnam agreement reduce tariffs and barriers, making it easier to import and export automotive parts and vehicles.

These opportunities are why many are attending Automechanika Ho Chi Minh City this week. As Vietnam’s largest automotive trade fair, it features 500 exhibitors from 23 countries, offering a chance to meet potential business partners and gather market insights.

Companies like Autel, BTS Technologies, FPT Automotive, Hengst, LAUNCH, Lucas, OBD, Thinkcar, VinAI, VNH, and Zero Mileage will showcase their products. The event also includes the Automotive Mobility Solutions Conference on June 20-21, 2024. This conference will explore Vietnam’s push for sustainability in the automotive industry amid the green energy transition.

A key session will provide insights into the current regulatory landscape and investment opportunities. Speakers from leading companies such as 3D Smart Solutions, ABB Automation and Electrification Vietnam, A.P. Moller – Maersk, Applus+ IDIADA, and Bosch Global Software Technologies will share their expertise.

Topics will cover electrification, digitalization, and the broader investment opportunities in charging infrastructure, smart parking, road network upgrades, and fleet optimization.

Automechanika Ho Chi Minh City will be held at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center from June 20 to 22, 2024.
