Porsche will offer inductive home charging on the forthcoming Cayenne Electric, making it the car maker’s first series model to support contactless energy transfer.

A prototype and the floor plate system are being demonstrated at IAA Mobility in Munich ahead of the SUV’s world premiere at end-2025, with a European market launch for the charging hardware set for 2026.

The option, branded Porsche Wireless Charging, uses a flat “one-box” base plate containing all components except the supply cable, removing the need for a wallbox or separate control unit.

A receiver module is mounted in the vehicle underbody between the front wheels. When the Cayenne is parked over the plate, the SUV automatically lowers its ride height and charging begins. Energy is transferred across a gap of about 10–15cm at up to 11kW.

Porsche said the floor plate includes a motion sensor and foreign-object detection; charging pauses if interference is detected.

Positioning is guided through a special view in the Surround View parking function to help drivers align precisely above the plate.

The process can be monitored in the My Porsche app, which also supports familiar AC-charging conveniences such as a departure timer and cabin pre-conditioning.

Board Member for Development Michael Steiner said ease of use remains central to EV adoption and called the system a step towards making at-home charging “as simple and convenient as possible”.

Europe will be first to get the hardware, with other regions to follow.

To underline the technology story, Porsche is showing a conspicuously camouflaged Cayenne prototype wearing innovative fluorescent paint that lights up when electricity flows.

The electroluminescent coating comprises more than 25 ultra-thin layers, including conductive primers, electrodes, insulating layers and pigments.

Five colour tones, from blue to violet, can be triggered selectively, while deliberately uncoated sections stay dark to create high contrast. The effect, developed by Style Porsche, produces a dynamic pattern that responds to alternating voltage.

Porsche’s inductive system will debut commercially alongside the Cayenne Electric, which will be the first Porsche to support the feature from the factory.
