Hyundai Ioniq 5 has achieved the Guinness World Record for the greatest altitude change by an electric vehicle, with an elevation shift of 5,802 metres during a 14-day journey across India.
The record-setting drive was organised by Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) and executed by a professional team from Evo India.
The journey began at Umling La in Leh Ladakh, the world’s highest drivable point at 5,799m above sea level, and ended on Dec 3 in Kuttanad, Kerala, located three metres below sea level.
The expedition covered over 4,900km, navigating extreme terrains and weather conditions, showcasing the vehicle’s durability and advanced engineering.
The Ioniq 5, a standard production model built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), performed without a hitch in environments ranging from freezing Himalayan passes to the humid coastal plains of Kerala.
Equipped with a 72.6 kWh battery, the vehicle demonstrated strong efficiency and a long driving range, reinforcing its position as a leader in electric mobility, said Hyundai.
“This achievement is a testament to Hyundai’s commitment to innovation, technological excellence, and sustainability,” said HMIL managing director Unsoo Kim.
