Chinese authorities have launched a joint investigation into reported brake pedal bracket failures involving the Maextro V800 electric luxury MPV, developed by Huawei and JAC Motors.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Cyberspace Administration of China and State Administration for Market Regulation announced the investigation on Thursday.

The three agencies said they would examine the reported failures and take action under relevant laws and regulations. Their findings will be made public.

The investigation follows an Oct 8 video released by Chinese automotive testing platform Dongchedi, which reported brake pedal bracket failures in three V800 vehicles during repeated emergency braking tests from 100kph to a standstill.

Dongchedi said the failures prevented normal operation of the brake pedals, forcing testers to stop the vehicles using an emergency braking function activated through the Park control.

Maextro disputed the testing conditions, describing them as extreme and outside normal operating requirements.

The company said no similar failures had been reported during actual customer use since deliveries began.

Nevertheless, Maextro pledged to improve the bracket design and offer existing owners a free upgrade. It also committed to reviewing its testing procedures and production quality controls.

Following the government’s announcement, Maextro said it would fully cooperate with investigators.

The V800 is the flagship model of Maextro, a luxury brand jointly developed by Huawei and JAC under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance.

Launched in August, the electric MPV competes in China’s premium people-carrier segment against established models such as the Toyota Alphard and Lexus LM.

Authorities have not established whether the reported failures resulted from a manufacturing defect, a design weakness or the testing conditions. No official investigation findings have been released.
