Nissan is expanding its collaboration with Applied Intuition to support development of its next-generation vehicle software platform and future AI-defined vehicles.
Applied Intuition said its Vehicle OS software will be used to help Nissan develop a scalable and open in-vehicle software platform, with engineering teams in Japan and Silicon Valley working alongside Nissan engineers in Japan.
The aim is to shorten software-development cycles, reduce complexity and support a common platform across multiple powertrains.
Nissan said the work forms part of its push to strengthen software and AI development as it moves towards what it calls AI-defined vehicles, or AIDVs.
Applied Intuition’s software is intended to abstract hardware complexity and bring older and newer development workflows onto a common platform, allowing vehicle software to be developed and updated more efficiently.
The expanded collaboration builds on a relationship that began in 2020, when Nissan adopted Applied Intuition’s simulation technology.
Since then, the two companies have worked on AI-assisted development workflows, including a live demonstration of a Nissan LEAF-based test vehicle at AWS Summit Japan.
The latest agreement moves the partnership beyond simulation into in-vehicle operating systems and AI-native software development.
